Winter Road Trip

November through March is when the Southwest is at its best and almost nobody treats it that way. Death Valley sits at 68 °F, the Grand Canyon rim goes white, and you can have an overlook to yourself on a Saturday.

Fresh snow on the Grand Canyon rim

Stay in the warm belt

From Las Vegas or San Diego the route keeps you low and warm: Death Valley in its actual peak season, Joshua Tree, Anza-Borrego, and the Grand Canyon South Rim, open all year. Bryce with snow on the hoodoos is the one worth the cold.

Warm all night, with nobody’s generator running

Camp Mode is the strongest argument for winter camping: the cabin holds a steady 68 °F until morning, silent and exhaust-free, while the half-empty campground stays quiet. A desert night near freezing is a non-event from inside the car.

Cold-weather range, honestly

Cold costs range – usually 10–20 % at Southwest winter temperatures. In a Supercharger network this dense that is close to irrelevant, and the planner already accounts for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Inside the car, never – Camp Mode heats all night at whatever temperature you set. The rooftop tent we only recommend in winter at desert elevations; otherwise just sleep inside.

At Southwest winter temperatures (40–68 °F), usually 10–20 %. The planner is already conservative about it, so all you notice is a slightly earlier charging stop.

Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Zion and the Grand Canyon South Rim stay open year-round. Yellowstone’s roads and Trail Ridge Road close – which is exactly when the desert is at its best.

Not on the desert route. For a Bryce or Flagstaff detour the cars run all-season tyres, and if a winter storm warning lands we reroute you – that is what the concierge is for.

Yes. Off-season means campgrounds you can book without months of notice, empty overlooks, and better vehicle availability. It is the best value of the year.
