The lowest, hottest and driest place in North America, and at night one of the darkest. Death Valley takes more charging thought than any other park on these routes, and far less than the forums claim.

Badwater, dunes & Artist’s Palette

Badwater Basin is 282 feet below sea level and the salt crust crunches when you walk on it. Add the Mesquite Flat dunes at sunset, Artists Drive in the afternoon light, and Zabriskie Point at sunrise. One full day covers the highlights.

Charging strategy & season

This is the one park where the plan matters. **The nearest fast charger is Beatty, Nevada, about 43 miles from Furnace Creek.** Not Las Vegas, despite what you will read. Yes, with a plan. Arrive with a real buffer, charge overnight where you sleep, and keep Beatty in mind as the fallback at 43 miles. Do not count on topping up in passing, because Level 2 does not work that way.

October through March. Furnace Creek Campground takes reservations in that window. Summer is survivable but the heat can disable charging hardware, so it is not the season to be improvising.

As a custom detour. It is about two hours from Las Vegas, so our concierge can add it to a Grand Circle itinerary without breaking the rest of the route.

It is a Gold-tier Dark Sky Park and the Milky Way is bright enough to cast a shadow. Camp Mode means you can stay out late and come back to a car that is already the right temperature.

For the highlights, yes. Zabriskie at sunrise, Badwater, Artists Drive, dunes at sunset. Two nights is better, mostly because of the sky.
