Road Trip from Los Angeles
Los Angeles is the hinge. The Pacific Coast Highway runs north, the desert sits east, and Route 66 ends here. Which direction you pick on day three matters more than anything you do in the city itself.

Three directions, three trips
North is the 10-day Pacific Coast run through Santa Barbara and Big Sur to San Francisco. East is Joshua Tree and the desert in two to three hours. And Route 66 ends at the Santa Monica Pier, so plenty of people finish here rather than start.
Pickup & handover in greater Los Angeles
We work from one hub in the greater LA area. No airport counter. A personal 30 minute handover covering the tent, Camp Mode and the route app, with someone who has driven the roads you are about to drive. LAX transfers on request.
From the hub the usual places are close: Hollywood, Griffith Observatory, Santa Monica and the start of Highway 1.
One practical note we give every guest: with the rooftop tent fitted the car is taller than most garages allow, around 6 feet 6 inches of clearance. In Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Downtown that rules out a lot of parking. Street parking and open lots. We give you the exact height at handover.
What to do while you are here
If you have one evening, spend it at the Griffith Observatory. Free, open late, and the view runs from downtown to the ocean. Sunset does not wait for a tour schedule, which is the whole reason to have your own car.
LA, electric
California is the easiest place in the country to drive electric. Superchargers on every major road, carpool lane access, and no emissions to think about in a basin that has spent decades dealing with them.
