Effectively yes. The route parallels I-40 and I-44 for most of its length and coverage there is continuous. Your longest gap is Flagstaff to Needles at about 150 miles, which you drive on a full battery anyway.

14 days is the right pace. That leaves room for ghost towns, diners and two days at the Grand Canyon. Ten days is possible and you will feel it.

Traditionally Chicago to Santa Monica, heading west, so the trip finishes with a Pacific sunset. One-way is available on request. Driving it eastbound is unusual but perfectly good.

Gateway Arch, Cadillac Ranch at sunset, Santa Fe, the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Seligman, the burros in Oatman, and the Santa Monica Pier at the end.

Mix them. Desert and national park nights in the rooftop tent, and a neon-sign motel in Tucumcari or Holbrook when the point is the building rather than the view.
